She Ji call for Literature Review Articles (ASAP)

Website: She Ji
Deadline for submissions: Rolling deadline.

She Ji is looking for literature review articles. In nearly every field, the critical literature review article is a cornerstone of progress and development. For this reason, literature review articles are among the most widely read and highly cited. Jane Webster and Richard Watson explain this in a 2002 article titled, “Analyzing the Past to Prepare for the Future: Writing a Literature Review.” While Webster and Watson wrote this for the information science field fifteen years ago, it applies to the design field today:
“A review of prior, relevant literature is an essential feature of any academic project. An effective review creates a firm foundation for advancing knowledge. It facilitates theory development, closes areas where a plethora of research exists, and uncovers areas where research is needed. In the information systems (IS) field, we see few published review articles. As a result, the progress of our field is impeded. To address this concern, the MIS Quarterly launched MISQ Review several years ago. The clear intention was to accelerate the accumulation of IS knowledge. A particular goal was to advance the state of theory within the IS field. The stated purpose of MISQ Review is to …promote MIS research by publishing articles that conceptualize research areas and survey and synthesize prior research. These articles will provide important input in setting directions for future research.”
They go on to discuss the importance of the literature review — and they provide useful guidelines on how to write these crucial articles. A copy of this document is available here.

At this time, She Ji actively seeks critical literature review articles for the fields of design and design research.

Everyone who writes a solid research PhD has done a literature review at a fundamental stage of his or her work — some of these literature review chapters can be expanded into critical review articles. We want to publish them.

Many people who apply for major research funding begin the application with a careful review of issues and topics, along with a review of past and current literature. Many of these projects can be expanded into critical review articles. We want to publish them.

Many of you who read lists such as this one have a field of personal expertise and deep personal interest. You know the crucial literature best of all. If you can organize your personal expertise and reading lists into a critical review article, we want to publish it.

The important genre of the critical literature review is a gap in the literature of the design field. We are looking for literature review articles and authors who have them — or want to write them.

If you have a thesis chapter or a grant application literature section that you can transform for journal publication, I’d like to hear from you. If you have an idea for a critical literature review, I’d like to hear from you.

She Ji. The Journal of Design, Economics, and Innovation is published by Tongji University in Cooperation with Elsevier. We are a fully peer reviewed journal, available by open access. We charge no author fees. Our readers include academics, researchers, and professional designers, along with leaders in business, industry, and government who are interested in design.

Are you ready to share your expertise by helping us to fill the gap for literature review articles in the fields of design and design research?

Please write to Prof. Ken Friedman.
