Annual Conf of the Design Research Society: Catalyst (June 2018, Limerick, Ireland)

Dates: 25-28 June 2018
Location: University of Limerick, Ireland
Website: DRS 2018
Deadline for submissions: UPDATED 14 November 2017

Designing is increasingly taking place in shifting territorial, economic, and policy contexts. DRS2018 will explore emergent themes at the intersections of design research, design practice, design education and design policy. We ask what are the ways in which design research can catalyse progressive change in this emerging world?

DRS2018 takes place in Limerick, Ireland in an exciting four-day conference from 25th to 28th June 2018. As well as DRS2018 Call for Papers, we also seek submissions for the PhD by Design event, Workshop sessions and Conversation sessions. Please see the website for the Call for Conversations, Call for Workshops, and PhD by Design.

DRS2018 invites new and challenging paper submissions from any area or discipline of design research.  We embrace research looking at and using design in the widest possible sense with interdisciplinary work and work responding to the conference themes particularly encouraged.

SUBMISSION

Papers should be up to 5000 words, including abstracts and references, and should adhere to the conference paper submission template guidelines.

All submissions must be in the English language.

The online submission system will be open from 5th September 2017 and full papers must be submitted by midnight on 6th November 2017.

IMPORTANT: THERE WILL BE NO EXTENSIONS TO THIS DEADLINE

Review for DRS2018 is by full papers only.

Peer Review

This is a general design research conference and it is expected that a wide variety of work and projects will be reported. Irrespective of the range and stage of your research, we expect the highest standards of scholarship and clarity in terms of establishing context, explicating methods of inquiry, and reporting results. Full papers will be selected through a double blind review process conducted by an international review panel.

Our aim is to increase the quality of peer reviewing for DRS2018.  The review process for each sub-track of the conference will be managed separately by a sub-chair who will oversee the peer review process for submissions.  This will involve allocating reviewers, resolving any conflicts, and making recommendations to the overall DRS2018 review committee.  Authors will have an opportunity to evaluate the reviews they receive, which sub-chairs will factor into making their final recommendations.

Conference Presentation And Proceedings

Authors of accepted papers are expected to attend and present their work at the DRS2018 conference. All accepted papers will be published in the online conference proceedings and be available before the beginning of the conference.
