The Design Factors group at the University of Limerick, Ireland has received funding from the European Commission to perform research on the development of a soft exoskeleton to assist people with mobility impairments. The project is a large H2020 collaborative project involving ten other EU academic and industry partners.
Research scholarships
Two PhD research scholarships are available to investigate user needs, ergonomic and human factors, product design and product service system requirements. The research will involve a mix of design ethnography and laboratory based ergonomics studies. There will be training opportunities both in Ireland and abroad as part of the scholarship, and also opportunities for foreign travel to participate in international workshops/conferences.
Applications are welcome from graduates of design, engineering, ergonomics/ human factors & related science disciplines who have an interest in human centered design, ergonomics and human factors, design ethnography and product service system design for users with mobility impairment.
Example undergraduate qualifications might include, but not be limited to, product/industrial design, ergonomics/human factors, medical device design, sports science/ physiology, psychology and occupational therapy.
Applications should have at minimum a 2.1 Level 8 degree qualification. It is desirable (but not necessary) that candidates have a postgraduate qualification in one of the relevant fields.
Funding
The scholarships are full time positions and include registration fees (€5500 per annum) and a stipend (€18,000 per annum tax free, subject to qualifications).
